GIVING A VOICE TO THE VOICELESS

The purpose of this blog post is to present the Your Voice design as a human-centered concept that uses technology to enable natural communication and greater inclusivity. Through the presentation of the idea and the design process, the text is intended for designers, engineers, students, technology enthusiasts, and all those who believe that design should respond to real human needs and contribute to creating a world without communication barriers, with special dedication to those who are going through difficult moments and whose voices deserve to be heard.

Silence That Speaks

Silence.
Stillness.

Why can’t I say “mom”?
Why does my thought stop somewhere between my heart and my mouth?
Why do I have so much to say — yet no voice?

Within me, there are words, questions, answers, memories, and emotions.
Every day, they live quietly inside me, waiting for the moment to be released.
The world speaks — I listen.
The world asks — I remain silent.

Not because I have nothing to say,
but because my voice does not know how to come out.

This silence is not empty.
It is heavy, dense, and filled with thoughts, desires, and the need to be understood.
A silence that hurts, but also a silence that carries hope.

And every day, I ask myself the same question:
Why am I different from the others?

A Real Problem of Our Time

This is not poetry.
This is reality.

For millions of people around the world, silence is not a moment — it is a way of life. People who hear, understand, and feel, but cannot express the most basic human ability: speech. In everyday situations — at the store, at school, in a hospital, or in conversations with loved ones — communication becomes a barrier instead of a bridge.

Although there are attempts at solutions, they are most often limited to applications, tablets, or writing. These tools slow down communication, require visual contact and physical interaction, and turn speech into a process rather than a natural act. Instead of spontaneous dialogue, waiting is created. Instead of presence — distance.

It is precisely this reality that raises the question:
Is there truly no solution?

From Idea to Realization

Now, once again, I will take you through a process of realization.

It all began with a simple, everyday form — an ordinary orange. Inspired by the natural roundness of the orange, its softness and organic unity without sharp edges became the starting point for the design of a mini robot that does not intimidate, does not dominate, and does not appear technically cold, but instead feels friendly and close to the human being. That very form helped me envision an object that would become a part of the person, rather than a foreign body beside them.

At that moment, I asked myself the key question:
“What if the voice does not have to come from the mouth? What if the body could speak instead of words?”

From that question, the development of the concept began. The idea was first shaped through rough sketches on paper, where I intuitively searched for the form, proportions, and the relationship with the human body.

In parallel, a research process followed — studying the muscular movements of the neck, the way the body communicates without sound, and analyzing existing solutions and their limitations. Special attention was given to materials: a flexible and gentle patch that naturally adapts to the skin, and a small circular robot with a smooth, rounded surface, designed to be pleasant to the touch and visually unobtrusive.

Once the concept was clearly defined, the form continued to evolve digitally — the basic geometry and proportions were modeled in Rhino, while in 3ds Max the design gained its final visual character through materials, lighting, and spatial context.

And it was precisely through this process — from the initial inspiration, through the question “what if…?”, the sketches, research, and shaping of the form — that the idea began to gain clear direction and meaning. Instead of yet another technological device, a concept emerged that uses silence as a starting point and the body as a medium for communication. The need to create a solution that is intuitive, unobtrusive, and human-centered defined the essence of the project. Thus, from the attempt to understand a voice that cannot be heard, from the desire to restore natural communication, and from the belief that design can be a tool for equality — Your Voice was born.

Your Voice

A design concept created to enable natural, everyday communication for non-speaking individuals through an innovative approach that uses the body as a source of speech. The system consists of two main elements: a flexible patch placed on the neck and a small circular robot.

The patch is designed to read the muscular movements associated with the attempt to speak, without restricting the user’s movement or comfort. These signals are transmitted in real time to the robot, which converts them into understandable speech. The concept is envisioned to function intuitively, without writing and without complex commands, enabling spontaneous communication in everyday situations. Rather than allowing technology to dominate, it discreetly integrates into the user’s life, with the aim of restoring a sense of presence, independence, and the right to a voice.

Communication Without Boundaries

This design is not important because of the technology it uses, but because of the people it is created for. When communication is not possible, a person does not lose only words — they lose spontaneity, self-confidence, and a sense of belonging. That is why this concept is not envisioned as a device, but as everyday support, as a way to be present again in conversation, in the community, and in one’s own life.

The importance of the design lies in restoring natural interaction — without explanations, without looking away, and without the feeling of being different. It creates a space where silence no longer means absence, but a starting point for communication. And it is precisely here that design fulfills its true role — not to change the person, but to help them be who they already are.

To be heard.

With Your Voice, let us build a world without silence.
